Atlantic Canadian Dachshund Rescue is an all-volunteer charitable organization that focuses on dachshunds and dachshund mixes. Begun as an offshoot to Canadian Dachshund Rescue in 2001, in time ACDR became its own entity. It now operates throughout Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador.
Our Mission
Rescue dachshunds and dachshund mixes who find themselves, for a variety of reasons, in need of a new home.
Rehabilitate the dogs who come into our care, addressing all of their medical and emotional needs through our home-based foster program and keeping them in care until they are in the best shape they can be.

Represent the dachshund breed through educational programs so that people understand exactly what being the guardian of a dachshund will mean to them, as well as learning about animal welfare, puppy mills, and other relevant topics.

Our History
ACDR is extremely proud to have been helping dachshunds in need in Atlantic Canada for 20 years.
It all started in 2001 when three women found each other somewhat by accident when each one was looking around for a dachshund rescue to volunteer with. At the time, the only dachshund rescue in all of Canada was Canadian Dachshund Rescue (CDR) based in Ontario. Although it was supposed to be national in scope, there was no representation in the Maritimes and so the three women decided to start a chapter of CDR in Atlantic Canada.
Over time, through a series of events, CDR decided to only operate in Ontario, and as a result CDR-Atlantic became a separate, independent entity. Originally serving NS, NB and PEI, eventually supporters from NL also wanted to help, and so Atlantic Canadian Dachshund Rescue (ACDR) was born.
Happy Tails
Each of these dogs have found their forever families through ACDR.
